Thurman Holmes

Pastor Thurman Holmes accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior in 1975 at Evangelist Baptist Church.  He and his wife, Jean, and family, served at Evangelist, under Rev. Willard Nance.  They were faithful members and he became a deacon.

In 1978, God led them to move their membership to Downriver Baptist Church. He and his family served faithfully under Rev. Samuel Curtis for many years. He was a deacon, then head deacon, Adult Sunday school teacher, and preacher, among other duties, throughout the years.

In 2003, Thurman surrendered to God’s calling to become not only a preacher of the Gospel, but also a pastor. Downriver Baptist Church voted him in as pastor.

In 2010, Evangelist Baptist and Downriver Baptist Churches merged.  Pastor Thurman Holmes was voted in as Pastor of the newly merged, Evangelist Baptist Church.
